Solo RV Road Trip Tips

While many people use RVs to travel with their families or groups of friends, you don’t have to have a big family or a huge traveling group in order to enjoy RV travel. Some people may either choose to go on a solo trip apart from their families or they may be single and adventurous and ready to strike out on a cross-country sojourn.

Traveling alone can be very freeing and fun, but it does come with some risks. Since you won’t have the security of other people to assist you in a challenging situation, you’ll have to take some extra precautions to keep yourself safe on your travels.

If you’re planning to go on a solo road trip, then here are the tips you’ll want to follow to ensure you have a safe and memorable solo RV road trip.

Understand the Risks of Getting Stranded

This is the biggest way that people get hurt when traveling alone: they let themselves end up isolated in the middle of nowhere with no way to call for help. Your worst-case scenario is that your RV breaks down and leaves you on the side of the road.

Another way you might end up stranded is to become injured or sick while hiking and exploring the wilderness. The odds are slim that these things will happen, but you do need to take steps to prevent them from occurring.

Stay In Contact with Others

Maintain contact with a friend, neighbor, coworker or family member back at home. Keep in touch via cell phone or email. Set up a check-in schedule with that person so they know where you are and what your traveling plans look like. While this means that you can’t completely disconnect from the outside world during your trip, it also means that you’re being responsible about your safety.

Learn Self-Defense Strategies

Knowing how to protect yourself is important no matter whether you’re taking a solo road trip in your RV or simply going through a dark parking garage at night. Taking some local self-defense classes from law enforcement or other institutions can teach you the tactics you need to know to fend off an attacker.
